A Story of Strength, Loss, and Legacy 💚

This isn’t just a photo. It’s a story of heartbreak, love, and the incredible strength that can grow from tragedy.

17 years ago, Tom — one of our founders here at Opulent Odds — lost his younger brother Matty in a devastating motorbike accident. Matty was just a teenager, full of life, with everything ahead of him. In one heartbreaking moment, everything changed.

That day, the Great North Air Ambulance Service responded.

They fought with everything they had to save Matty. These men and women, who risk their lives to help others, arrived with urgency, skill, and compassion. Sadly, despite their tireless efforts, Matty didn’t make it. But the impact of what they did has stayed with Tom and his family forever.

Since then, Tom made it his mission to make sure his brother’s name would never be forgotten — and that the people who tried to save him would continue to get the support they so desperately need. No government funding. No shortcuts. Just a helicopter, a team of heroes, and the will to save lives — over and over again. 🚁💚

From Boxing Day Dips in the freezing North Sea 🌊❄️, to football tournaments, race nights, and raffles — Tom and his family have poured their grief into purpose. With the help of a supportive community, they’ve now raised over £60,000 for the Great North Air Ambulance Service.

This photo was taken as Tom handed over a cheque representing the total amount he has tirelessly raised over the past 17 years — all in memory of his brother Matty. Surrounded by family and GNASS staff, it’s more than just a number on a cheque — it’s the result of years of passion, pain, and purpose. A promise kept. A legacy built. 🙏💚

At Opulent Odds, we’re more than just competitions — we’re real people, shaped by real stories. And our hearts will always lie with the heroes of the GNASS, and with the memory of Matty Heath, who inspires everything we do.

If you’ve ever entered one of our draws, liked a post, or supported us in any way — thank you. You’re helping us support life-saving work, and helping to keep Matty’s memory alive.

This is what we stand for. This is why we do it.
